Certificate to mention name of vessel
  Question:

Name: Hook Ching Hue

Dear all,

LC 47a stated, “Certificate from shipping company of their agencies that the vessel is seaworthy and not more than 20 years old”. (Shipping company cert with showing L/C number but without vessel name and B/L number, issued by same shipping company as per B/L)

Refusal quoted NAME OF THE VESSEL NOT MENTIONED ON SHIPPING COMPANY CERTIFICATE.

Issuing bank insist their stand with reason ''NAME OF VESSEL TO BE MENTIONED ON SHIPPING CERT IN ORDER TO CORRELATE IT WITH B/L

Issuing bank has no ground to refuse payment as there is no requirement by credit to indicate vessel name or even B/L number. The important thing is that the issuer of the shipping certificate was the shipping company or their agent.

Is the discrepancy valid?

Answer (from ND George)

B/L number is not mentioned. Vessel name is not mentioned. Is LC number
alone sufficient to establish the connection? I think that the balance
is in favour of calling a discrepancy as the purpose of this document is
to evidence age of the vessel and absent vessel name or at least BL
number it would be a stretch to view the certificate as relating to the
vessel shown in BL.

Answer (from Bogdan Ilie)

Despite to the fact that such certificates usually indicate either B/L number or vessel name or both, in respect of UCP600 sub-article 14(f) the certificate is complying with LC terms and conditions.
Furthermore, the certificate indicates the LC number that links it with all other documents and the LC.
