Courier receipt |
| |
Question: |
Name: Azmi
I would appreciate your kind and urgent assistance on the following matter:
We are requested by one of our customers to issue a letter of credit calling
for a courier receipt as a transport document of goods.
As this is our first experience with this kind of documents, I would
appreciate your assistance for the best wording to be used in claiming this
document (interests of the bank to be preserved).
Thank you in advance for your assistance. |

Answer
(from ND George) |
I don't think
that any one in his / her right mind wants to get stuck with a courier
package and be responsible for its unknown contents, safe custody, insurance
etc. So, stay away from the temptation to name the bank as the consignee for
"interests of the bank to be preserved". Open the LC calling for package
addressed directly to applicant - moral: don't open the LC if bank's only
security is the contents of the courier package! |

Answer
(from Bogdan Ilie) |
-
the courier
receipt to be issued by a well known company such as DHL,
TNT, FEDEX or UPS;
-
to be issued
as per UCP600 article 25
-
if you wish,
to indicate issuing bank's ref. no./commercial invoice
number and
date
-
original for
shipper to be presented, not a photocopy (note that might
not be marked original for shipper, the one presented being in fact a
carbon copy of the original that follow the goods).
Regards,
Bogdan
