Chop
  Question:

Name: VV Won

Dear Experts,

I have a insurance certificate, which doesn't have any signature, but only a round company chop.

Does it constitute discrepancy?

Thanks in advance!

V.V.

Answer (from Bogdan Ilie)

Unless the LC clearly stipulates that insurance document must be "signed by handwriting" or similar, the insurance certificate is valid.

Please review paragraph 39 of ISBP (681)

“A signature need not be handwritten. Facsimile signatures, perforated signatures, stamps, symbols (such as chops) or any electronic or mechanical means of authentication are sufficient….”

Best regards,

Answer (from Don Smith)

Generally yes - see article 3 (3rd and 4th subparagraph), article 17,
article 37a re signature.  Also see ISBP paragraph 29
