KT is a
Partner at the Banking and Finance Department of Dibb Lupton Alsop (“DLA”)
one of the top ten international law firms in U.K. KT is admitted in
Hong Kong and in England and Wales.
Prior to
joining the legal profession, KT was formerly the Vice President and
Head of Trade Finance at Bank of America and had been in charge of
Credit, Marketing and Operations during his 13 years banking career. He
regularly acts as an expert witness and gives expert opinions reports on
banking and trade related issues in the Hong Kong courts. KT is a full
member of the Academy of Experts of Banking and Structured Trade Finance
Products.
KT has
advised various international financial courts and corporations on
letters of credit (“L/C’s”), bank guarantees, standby L/C’s, commercial
contracts, negotiable instruments, A/C receivable financing, security
taking and enforcement, banking and trade disputes, e-banking,
agreements, commercial banking operations and financial products. He has
successfully assisted a number of banking and commodities trading
clients in resolving trade disputes involving PRC and Korean banks. He
has also drafted standard commercial and retail banking documentation as
well as structured trade agreements (e.g. syndicated standby L/C’s,
compensation trade agreements, silent confirmation agreements, factoring
and forfaiting etc.) for a diverse range of banking and commercial
clients throughout the Asian region, including PRC banks. KT is fluent
in English, Mandarin and Cantonese.
KT is a
frequent writer and speaker on International Standard Banking Practice
(“ISBP”), Incoterms 2000, International Trade Finance – UCP 500, Bank
Guarantees and Standby L/C’s – Comparison between UCP 500, ISP 98 & URDG
458, Factoring and A/C Receivable Financing, Code of banking Practice,
Bank Security Documents, banking Operations Law, Bills of Exchange,
Cheques & Funds Transfer, International Sale Contracts and International
Trade Fraud.
KT is
currently a member of the Banking Commission of ICC – Hong Kong, China
and is one of the experts of the ICC Documentary Instruments Dispute
Resolution Expertise (“DOCDEX”) Rules.
In 2003, KT
was appointed by the International Chamber of Commerce (“ICC”) to be a
member of its Consultation Group on the revision of the UCP 500, the
globally accepted governing rules of letters of credit. He is also the
author of “Leading Court Cases on Letters of Credit” published 2004.
From 1988
to 2004, KT has been invited by over 60 institutions and banks to
conduct over 200 legal and banking workshops in Hong Kong, China,
Singapore, India, Indonesia and Europe. In 2004, KT was invited by the
Supreme People’s Court of China to conduct an L/C workshop for over 120
PRC judges. A total of over 10.000 lawyers, bankers and business
executives have attended KT’s highly interactive and entertaining
workshops with excellent feedback.
