John
Dolan is Distinguished Professor of Law at Wayne State University.
He is the author, among other books, of a treatise on letters of credit,
The Law of Letters of Credit (A.S. Pratt. rev. ed. 1996 w/
semi-annual supplements) and of law review articles and newsletter
pieces dealing with letters of credit. He is a member of the American
Law Institute and serves as an editorial board member of the Banking Law
Journal and of the Journal of Payment Systems law and as foreign
contributing editor of the Banking & Finance Law Review. Professor
Dolan was active in the revision of Uniform Commercial Code, Article 5,
in the role of an American Bar Association advisor to the drafting
committee. He was a member of the drafting committee of the ALI’s
Restatement of Suretyship 3d. His treatise and articles are widely
cited by federal and state courts and in scholarly books and journals.
Professor Dolan has taught as a visiting professor at the University of
Utrecht, the University of Maastricht, the University of Michigan, the
University of California, and Ave Maria School of Law, and he was a
