As a
National Committee Director of ICC Ireland, Laurence founded the Irish
Committee on Banking Techniques and Practice and has represented Ireland
at worldwide meetings of the ICC Commission on Banking Techniques and
Practice for many years.
He also
founded the Irish Committee on Customs & Trade within ICC Ireland.
He is a
regular contributor to international conferences and was a panellist
representing exporters at the American Institute of International
Banking Law & Practice (IIBLP) conference in Dublin and a speaker at the
Finance, Credit and International Business (FCIB) conference in
Brussels. His experience in managing Trade Finance Depts. of several
banks is coupled with 30 years experience in major importing/exporting
companies in Europe. This rare combination of experience is invaluable
as a consultant and trainer to Banks and exporters/importers.
While
working in the U.K., Laurence represented firms at the British Shippers
Council and the Shipping Committee of the Society of Motor Manufacturers
& Traders (SMMT). He has been a Member of the Institute of Export (U.K.)
since 1995 and subsequently a registered consultant with the Institute.
He was
External Examiner for the Institute of International Trade of Ireland
Diploma in International Trade and a Representative to the Irish Customs
Consultative Committee.
His
involvement as the Technical Editor/main content developer for DC-PRO,
the ICC web-based multimedia training package, designed to teach
students of letters of credit online, is indicative of his accepted
level of authority on the subject. He is also an author who is regularly
invited to contribute articles in specialist titles such as the ICC
magazine DC Insight (see first issue of 2006), the FIATA Review,
Institute of Export Handbook etc. He is the only person in Ireland
appointed by the ICC to the worldwide Consulting Group currently working
on the revision of the rules governing letters of credit (UCP).
As a
Visiting Professor at several universities in Europe, he lectures part
time on Masters & Doctorate courses. He has been an adviser to several
colleges in Europe in drafting syllabi for international trade courses
and is a fluent French speaker.
